More than half of the world’s population use the internet on their mobile devices, and more than half their internet time is spent on their phone.

5.00 billion people are using the internet today, which is 7% more than last year. Most of this growth comes from Asian countries, including China, with over 1.00 billion people online. Other countries with high numbers of internet users are the U.S., with 281 million users, and India, with 243 million people.
In 2017, 3.4 billion people were using the internet. That’s 196 million more than the previous year.
Global internet use is rising but at a much faster pace in developing countries.

Mobile Stats From Around the World
The number of people with mobile phones has grown by 100 million over the last year, while the number of people with smartphones has risen by 400 million. China has re are now 2.71 billion smartphones in use worldwide, equating to 51% of the entire world’s population. The most significant number of users, with 1.41 billion people owning mobile devices. India is second with 1.08 billion people, followed by the U.S. with 327 million subscribers and Indonesia with 269.
There are 5.32 billion mobile phone users in the world today.
The number of cell phone subscribers worldwide increased by 91 million in 2013.
There are 7.19 billion people on Earth, and 96.3 percent of them have a mobile phone. That’s 6.87 BILLION phones. That doesn’t even include tablets, which account for 50 million more. And 1.06 Billion of those are 4G capable. That’s 1.06 Billion people using their phones for video, music, and games.
While the number of smartphone users has grown by 91 million over the past year, nearly 500 million users have upgraded to a smartphone from feature phones, meaning the net growth is 1.7%.
While the number of smartphone users is rapidly growing, many people still use older, non-smartphones.
By the end of 2015, there were 3.5 billion people with mobile broadband connections worldwide.
As of 2016, 6.57 billion people are using mobile phones, and 4 out of 5 own a smartphone. Many people own multiple phones, so this number is likely higher.

That means that of the 3.58 billion people currently on the internet, 2.14 billion purchase products, goods, or services weekly. That’s a whole lot of spending! And it’s not only young people doing it – although they’re the most likely to be making purchases, with 69% of 16-24-year-olds making a purchase each week. Even among 55+, nearly half (49%) are doing the same.
According to recent data, 60% of Internet users between the ages of 16 and 64 shop online at least once a week. This shows the popularity of online shopping.
More people are making online transactions using their mobile devices than desktop computers.
The amount of money spent on online consumer goods purchases in 2021 exceeded US$3.8 trillion, an increase of 18 percent compared with 2020 levels.
According to statistics from statista.com, the average person who shops for goods on the internet will spend more than $1,000 a year.
The coronavirus pandemic has significantly impacted travel, with global tourism expenditures falling by over 50% between 2019 and 2020.
Although there was a 45% increase in online bookings in 2021, this was 7% lower than in 2020. The COVID-19 outbreak severely hit the industry in 2020.
As you can see from the stats above, it’s becoming increasingly crucial for businesses to have some sort of online presence. And that doesn’t just mean having a website or social media account; you need to be active on those platforms and constantly engaging with your audience.
